RESEARCH DELIVERY SPECIALIST: MINING SAFETY (PERMANENT)

The incumbent will report to: Centre of Excellence Manager

Purpose

To manage the research delivery process through effective research service provider management, engagement with industry experts to ensure high quality research outcomes as it pertains to Mining Safety.

Minimum requirements

  • Master’s Degree in mining related qualification (Mining Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering)
  • Post Graduate qualification in Project Management will be an added advantage.
  • 4 years mining related experience.
  • 2- 4 years in the management of projects.
  • 2 years Research Management
  • Sufficient knowledge/experience of the South African mining industry (SAMI)
  • Sound understanding of the macro-environmental factors of the SAMI

Key performance areas

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • All research assignments which have contracts and service level agreements in place
  • Manage the reconciliation of a contract and exit based on predefined contract criterion.
  • Conducts post contract analysis to identify contract value and benefit
  • Effective Management of the delivery of projects through Service level agreements, project charters, Memorandums of Understandings (MoU) etc.
  • Necessary contractual arrangements and intellectual property implications in line with Committee decisions for each project are enforced.
  • The Annual approved research projects are regularly assessed, focussing on Technical content, Contractual compliance and Financial controls.
  • Monthly interaction between researchers is required to ensure that project outputs answer the research questions.
  • Corrective actions are taken and modifications to the research projects are negotiated where necessary.
  • Final project reports are assessed for impact, results, research methodology, data integrity, conformance of deliverables, correct interpretation of results, relevance of conclusions and recommendations.
  • Relevant research proposals annually solicited in line with the identified Health and Safety needs of the Mining Industry.
  • Research proposals evaluated for costs, relevance, impact, proposed outputs, team capability and costs, IP, research outcomes and ethical clearance.
  • Project proposals finalised and the involvement of designated mine champions, expert advisors and auditors advised on.
  • The proposed Annual Programme is prepared for consideration by the relevant Committee and the Council.
  • Necessary contractual arrangements and intellectual property implications in line with Committee decisions for each project are enforced.
