Nkhensani Masekoa

Chief Research Operations Officer

Nkhensani Masekoa acquired a Master of Public Health degree from University of Limpopo, an Executive Development Programme course from WITS.

She has strong knowledge of Research, Policy Development, Project Management and Stakeholder Management.  In the academic environment, she acquired sound knowledge of teaching, research methodology, proposal development and project management, data and information management, report writing.

As a Director Occupational Health Policy, she was responsible for providing leadership in the development of policy agenda and facilitate research that translates into formulation of Occupation Health Policies for the South African Mining Industry (SAMI). The opportunity provided her with knowledge and skills in the management of human and financial resources of the unit to meet the strategic objectives of the Department of Mineral Resources.

She is currently the Chief Research Operations Officer (CROO), head of Research Unit at the Mine Health and Safety Council responsible for overseeing research programme implementation and management to improve Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in the South African Mining Industry (SAMI).   Her role entails committee oversight and development of advice from research outcomes to the Minister of Mineral Resources

In October 2017, council finalized the process of establishing a Center of Excellence (CoE) which has been added under her portfolio and is now operational.  The CoE is supported by three technical committees, viz. Research Determination Technical Committee, Research Delivery Technical Committee and Research Outcome Dissemination Technical Committee.  It is envisaged that the CoE will facilitate that high impact OHS research is conducted through a broader consultation process.  Of note is that the establishment of the CoE included the creation of a Dissemination unit which will coordinate the promotion, marketing, communication and dissemination of MHSC research outcomes in the SAMI.

She is currently a registered student at UNISA for her Doctoral Degree in Health studies.
